A large temporary roof spanning a tight central London site between surrounding buildings, with the perimeter enclosed against wind and driving rain.
The challenge
Central London projects rarely come with space to spare, and this Mayfair site was no exception. The roof had to span a substantial area between neighbouring buildings and give reliable weather protection, built around an extensive scaffold framework with both the roof and the exposed sides enclosed. Crucially, it could not eat into the working space beneath it.
How we approached it
Working from the scaffold framework already in place across the site, the team installed heavy-duty shrink wrap across the temporary roof structure and heat-shrunk it into position, giving a tight covering rather than a loose sheet that lifts in wind. Sections around the perimeter were enclosed as well, to keep out wind and driving rain.
The outcome
From above, one continuous protective covering across the whole site. From inside, a very large covered working area with overhead and perimeter protection, and none of the usable space lost to the covering. Work carried on under it regardless of the weather.
